In 1776 the founding fathers signed a document that would set the course of American history forever. With boldness they signed what many believed would be a death sentence. After much discussion and disagreement this document was finally penned by Thomas Jefferson. It would be marked up, edited, and debated over until they arrived at what we now know to be the Declaration of Independence. Perhaps the most well known section of this incredible document is located in the beginning. It says, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” The word “inalienable” means cannot be given or taken away by any other person; while the term “endowed by their Creator” simply put, means given by the one who created us (God). Out of all the rights that cannot be given or taken away by man, the right to life sits at the top. The founders wisely began their list with “Life.” According to Jefferson the first and most important right given by God is life. The right to life is endowed by God and if it is taken away by men, not only are they clearly going against the Declaration of Independence, but they are also going directly against the Bible. The same is true for those legislators who vote in favor of abortion. They are in direct opposition to the Declaration of Independence and the Bible. It seems obvious that the founders put the right to life in our founding document for a reason, and if we believe that the issue of abortion is new we are mistaken. People have been disconnect abortion and murder for years. We are now to the point that if you are against abortion they say you are attacking women through civil rights. This propaganda is insulting to what civil rights truly is. There is no documentation of there being an argument over having the right to life in the Declaration of Independence, so one can’t help but believe that there was general consent that Americans have the right to life. Supporting abortion is not only defying the Bible by taking the gift God has given us (Life). It is also going against the Declaration of Independence. If you won’t support the right for every American to have life because of a biblical standard then maybe you can do it for a declaration standard. Every American has the right to live his or her life how they see fit. That is the beauty of America. When we as Americans take that right away from others we are now intruding on their constitutional right. Mothers are intruding on their unborn baby's right as an American. We as Christians and Americans need to stand up for our fellow countrymen.
