One of the big reasons that Americans carried guns during the time of the founding was the problem they were having with Pirates. In some areas Americans were even required to carry a gun. Fast forward to today. The first thought that comes to mind is that America doesn’t have pirates anymore, so the need for a person to carry a gun has decreased greatly; unless, there is the equivalent to pirates walking among us.
A pirate is one who preys on others, attacks, and robs them. The equivalent today would be named a thief or a robber. The most notorious of these modern day groups would be gangs. American gangs make up the 6th largest army in the world, and are more organized than most stereotypical armies. Gang members pose a real threat to many American families.
Consider if there was an extreme storm or economic breakdown in America, who would protect your family from gang members or the overreaching arm of the government? This may seem extreme, but recently I watched as swat teams surrounded gas stations in New York in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy which killed 285 people. This scene could quickly come to your home town and it is not only your right, but your responsibility as an American to protect that which is rightfully yours.
